So I’m in Taiwan

HELLO!

I shouted that just to make sure you could hear me, what with me being all the way in Taiwan aka The Heart of Asia, my voice has further to travel.

This post will be a brief outline of what’s gone on so far. This isn’t much, as I slept pretty much all the way from Amsterdam to Taipei so the flight was uneventful. I was somewhat disspointed by that; I was looking forward to making the most of the free booze and movies, but alas, sleepiness overtook me and I hunkered down good and proper for a decent sleep.

I arrived yesterday (Wednesday 6th May) and pretty much went for food and then to sleep. Today has been much more exciting, and I’ve pretty much had a whistle stop tour of Tainan, which is in the south of the country. When I arrived yesterday the weather, and the forecast was grim, but it perked up today and it’s been a comfortable, sunny 30C all day. Nice change from the rain I believe you’re having back home right now? My chaperone leant me a scooter helmet (very fetching) and we braved the crazy roads of Tainan to see the sights. The sights are mainly temples, which are really cool, incredible looking buildings. Snapshots below.

In between visiting temples of various ages and fame, we ate and drank our way through the delicacies of Tainan, which included super tasty fresh fruit and juice- I tried my first wax apple!; giant spring rolls which were incredible, and the less delightful stinky tofu sausage. That’s what you get for saying you’ll try anything.

One of the final stops of the day was at a super cool cafe- undoutably the most hipster place in Taiwan- where I was treated to a pot of Earl Grey Tea (heavan) and a cheeky wee slice of Earl Grey Cheesecake, homemade by the owners Mum.

There’s much more to say, and much more to show, but I won’t bore you with all that right now. Gotta keep you coming back for more. 🙂
